Bienale e Arkitekturës 2024 — 3rd Place
In 2024, Urgjenca Mjekësore received 3rd Place at the Bienale e Arkitekturës, recognizing the project’s innovation and social impact within the context of public healthcare architecture. Designed as a dedicated medical emergency facility, the project responds to the urgent functional demands of emergency care while maintaining architectural clarity and restraint.
Located in Podujevë, Kosovo, the 1,561 m² hospital building is conceived as a clear and legible structure, prioritizing efficiency, accessibility, and calmness in moments of crisis. The architectural approach focuses on creating an environment that supports both medical staff and patients, balancing technical performance with a humane spatial experience.
The building’s envelope combines a structural glass façade with a brick façade, establishing a dialogue between transparency and solidity. The glass elements enhance visibility and openness, while the brick provides durability, contextual grounding, and a sense of permanence appropriate to a public medical institution. This material contrast reinforces the building’s role as both a functional emergency facility and a civic presence.
The project was recognized by the jury for its innovative approach to emergency healthcare design and its social relevance, offering a contemporary architectural response to an essential public service. Urgjenca Mjekësore demonstrates how thoughtful architectural design can elevate critical infrastructure, contributing meaningfully to the built environment and the community it serves.
